RED Advanced Communication Instruction (RED-ACI) Certificates

The Reflective Educational Design |RED| Advanced Communication Instruction |ACI| Certificate is designed to provide advanced professional development for NC State faculty who want to enhance their expertise in communication pedagogy. Building on the foundational RED Core Teaching Certificate and designed by the Campus Writing and Speaking Program Co-Directors, the ACI program offers specialized training in Written, Oral, and Digital Communication instruction through partnership with the Campus Writing and Speaking Program (CWSP) and DELTA.
The RED ACI will equip participants with specialized knowledge in communication instruction across disciplines; provide opportunities to design innovative assignments using cutting-edge tools and pedagogical strategies; and support faculty in developing expertise that enhances student learning outcomes in written, oral, and digital communication.

RED ACI Certificates Beta Launch

Early enrollees will receive a $500 mini-grant and the opportunity to work directly with CWSP co-directors on pilot curriculum development and program refinement.

Program Format:

Core Modules (3 required): Foundations of Writing Pedagogy, Feedback and Assessment in Writing, Discipline-Specific Writing Instruction
Electives (choose 2 of 4): Multimodal and Digital Writing, Writing Across the Curriculum Strategies, AI in Writing Instruction, Inclusive Practices for Multilingual Writers
Capstone Project: Develop a writing-intensive syllabus or curriculum plan incorporating CWSP best practices

Core Modules (3 required): Principles of Public Speaking Instruction (including Communication Apprehension Reduction), Oral Communication Modes and Formats Across Disciplines, Assessing Oral Communication
Electives (choose 2 of 4): Interpersonal and Group Communication Strategies, Visual and Media Aids in Oral Presentations, Creating Engaging Speaking Assignments, Multilingual and Multicultural Considerations in Oral Communication
Capstone Project: Design an oral communication module or workshop for a specific course

Core Modules (3 required): Foundations of Digital Rhetoric and Communication, Designing and Assessing Digital Projects, Teaching with Digital Tools
Electives (choose 2 of 5): Social Media and the Attention Economy in Education, Ethical Issues in Digital Communication, Accessibility and Inclusive Design for Digital Media, Multimodal Composition and Digital Narratives; Communication in Online Courses
Capstone Project: Create a digital portfolio assignment or module integrating digital tools and accessibility

RED-ACI is currently only available to NC State faculty, staff, post docs and graduate students.
